Laguna Beach, Calif. — The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is proud to recognize the Cheng Family Foundation for its generous support of the Club’s Restore the Court campaign, helping revitalize one of the organization’s most beloved outdoor recreation spaces for current and future Club members.
Longtime Laguna Beach locals, the Cheng Family’s support helped transform the outdoor basketball court with the installation of a new soft court, new hoops and backboards. This space that has welcomed countless Club members over the years, ensuring it continues to inspire confidence, encourage physical activity, and foster connections among youth throughout the community. The project reflects the Club’s dedication to providing high-quality environments where every young person has the opportunity to thrive. Cliff and Jen Cheng wanted to honor two Boys & Girls Club staff that had a lasting impact on their children while they had been members of the Club. Staff members Hans Laroche and Erik Vasquez were deeply moved by the generous gesture of the gift of support being made in their honor.
“As the Sports and Recreation Director. I’ve had the privilege of being on staff for 18 years, but my connection to this club goes back even further — I was a Club kid myself from 1999 to 2007,” said Erik.
“Some of my favorite memories growing up here were spent on the playground basketball courts, playing with friends, staying active, and building lifelong connections. It’s incredibly meaningful to now see our current members enjoying those same experiences today — laughing, competing, and making memories of their own on those very courts.”
